Description
The Tecsun PL660 Radio with VHF Air Band is a great radio for communications enthusiasts, providing excellent reception of all major frequency bands including AM/MW, FM, Shortwave AM and SSB), Longwave, and VHF Air Band.
The Tecsun PL660 features of phase lock looped (PLL) synthesised RF circuit design, direct frequency entry, and a large LCD display make this model one of the most sensitive and full-featured portable radios available on the Australian market.
The Tecsun PL660 Radio with VHF Air Band includes synchronous detection which means that during periods of propagation fading, the Tecsun PL660 Radio’s receiver stays locked to the incoming signal. Independently selectable upper sideband (USB) and lower sideband (LSB) makes monitoring of HF utility stations such as HF Aircraft, Marine, Amateur Radio, 4WD clubs, and outback communications simple and intuitive.
The Tecsun PL660 Radio with VHF Air Band has a socket for an external antenna connection (to allow the connection of an external antenna on the Shortwave and FM bands), an antenna input attenuator to prevent signal overload from local signals, selectable IF bandwidth, tone control, and is supplied with rechargeable NiMh batteries, an approved Australian pinned charger, earphones, a protective carry case, a 6m long wire antenna and a comprehensive user manual. Available in black only.
This radio is designed to be operated from batteries, not directly from the charger supplied. Even though the charger voltage is regulated, the internal switching circuitry generates RF noise which can interfere with reception, especially on AM and Shortwave bands. Charging the receiver with the supplied 1000mAh rechargeable batteries for 5 hours will result in 9 hours battery endurance at comfortable listening level.
The latest firmware version is 215.

Great little setup, I’m from the USA and the 660 fits everything needed for a compact travel worthy Shortwave/CW/SSB/Air/AM/FM transceiver. I’ve now packed it on many trips MD get a decent use out of a set of Tecsuns Batteries (Available Separately) but you can use higher mAh batteries and the radio will still charge them just fine. I get a few days worth of use between charges and that was 8+ hours a day. The field antenna as well as the built in antenna draws signals in clear and strong, has a great DX filter switch, the ear buds are quality units and are comfortable and the carrying case keeps it clean and dry in the ruksack. The BFO tunes CW and Dab in great as well as the SYNC feature. If you want something between the powerhouse 880 and the lower end 600 the 660 is not to be overlooked.
If I have one complaint about this radio, and it effects the entire line is when the keypad is locked a slight tap to the tuner or a button causes the display to light up. I had inadvertently stuffed my bag a bit full and had near dead batteries by the time I got to my destination due to the display light on the entire 14 hour journey. If the key lock prevented the light from coming on would be a big improvement.
Newer models have the auto sort feature A well which is nice for eliminating duplicates and sorting your saved channels as well.
Just a great little setup in a compact package.
